About BeFit

Remy and Pounamu took over BeFit (previously The Yard) in 2022. Being fitness and health enthusiasts, their mission is to create a community of like minded individuals to train and adopt a healthy lifestyle.

Whether you’re a beginner looking to step foot in the gym for the first time, or an olympic weightlifter, BeFit provides a supportive environment for all. The gym was designed with a focus for functional fitness. Our goal is to promote movement and mobility utilising your full range of motion. If this is new to you, no problem. BeFit offers personal training and classes where you can learn how to train functionally and optimally in order to achieve your health and fitness goals.

Remy has been passionate about health and fitness for as long as he can remember. Having played many sports growing up, Remy still plays competitive ice hockey. Currently he plays for the Botany Swarm in the NZ Ice Hockey League as well as the NZ national team. He has previously played hockey in Canada, USA, Mexico, and Australia. Now a gym owner and certified personal trainer, he looks to share his knowledge and motivate others to achieve their health and fitness goals. Being a sportsman, Remy enjoys performance based training with goals and targets in mind. His main motivation however, is to lead a healthy and sustainable lifestyle.

Health, wellness and physical activity has always been an important part of Pounamu’s life. This led her to become a qualified personal trainer in 2012, followed by completing a Bachelor of Applied Science in Otago. Pounamu has a holistic approach to health and is passionate about nurturing the body and mind with nutritious food. Currently she loves running and partaking in group exercise. The many social connections formed through the fitness community on Waiheke Island are just as important to her as the physical benefits. She looks forward to welcoming you into the gym and being part of your journey.
